We’ve all had it happen. Sometimes it’s just a minor thing, and sometimes it’s a major one. You know, those projects that you pour your heart and soul into? Whether it’s a document you are writing and you lose power before saving it. A picture you are painting and you mess it up by adding that one last thing. That sinking feeling, that angry feeling, that helpless feeling. Now, can you imagine recording a whole album, and losing it all to a hard drive failure? Hours and hours of your heart and soul...gone. This is what happened to the Amazing Electronic Talking Cave. And instead of trying to recreate the album, a brand new set of songs were recorded in a very short amount of time, using the experience as motivation, influence and inspiration. This is Radio Psylence.

Normally I don’t do a song by song review. But after listening to this album a few times, it just seemed like it made a lot of sense. Some songs feed off each other, while some songs can stand alone. Some of my favorites on the album, depend on the songs around them. It was too difficult to not mention them all.

The album starts out with the song, “On Speed”, which seems to give the feeling as if you are being prepared for a journey. A slow descent, or is it ascent? Either way, a slow pace, towards a journey to the unknown. Just an absolutely beautiful, simple song. It will reset your state of mind.

“Tri Goda” kicks in with a sudden turn and change of pace. Many of us will not know the words to this song, as it’s spoken in Russian. But at the same time, it still feels like you know them and you want to sing along.

“Serdce” follows, and this song will win you over if the others haven’t already.

Every time I listen to this song, I get lost in it. It just builds with so many layers of sounds, and a very floating, heavenly like vocal. It’ll tie you in knots, but in a good warm feeling type of way.

“Kingisepp” is a layer lovers feast.

One after another, stacking and stacking. You wait for it to topple over, and just when you think it will, a few more find their way on. It’s like building a tower in the wind, and you don’t know if it will topple or stand the test of time.

If the album were split into side one and side two, “We Fucked Your Statues” would most likely be song 1 on side 2.

It is probably my favorite song on the album. Just love the Middle Eastern/Egyptian influences throughout the song. It definitely sticks out from the rest of the album, but not in a bad way. This is a song you’d dance across the desert to.

“Uznat” gives you that jolt of badass attitude.

A fighter would walk into the ring to this.

“Permanent Black Marker” with it’s heavy synth, gives that blanket wide sound wave, as you lay upon it floating along, looking down on the dark world below.

“Allisoneisall” reminds me of something I do often, and that is watch a record turn on a turntable.

Round and round, until we are nearly hypnotized.

The closing song on the album, “Not Your Name”, will pull at your heart strings. It takes you on that one last journey. As if you’ve finally made it. I find that it makes my soul weep. A beautiful and enchanting finish to a full and heartfelt album.

Sometimes good things happen, from bad things. Most of the time, we have a hard time seeing it when it happens. But if you ride the journey, and follow it to the end, you’ll be surprised what you find there. And of course, you will never know, if you don’t try.

This album is proof, that you can’t quit.

Keep it moving.

Keep it alive.
