In your Dreams...
DREAM CENTRAL STATION BY NATHAN J. BARRETT
I've been listening to this album for a while, and have been looking for a certain "direction" to take this write up. But I've struggled to really find one way to go. With a band name, Dream Central Station, this probably shouldn't be a surprise. Dreams always take us in many directions. Sometimes even one single dream can take us on a journey, that when we wake up, we ask ourselves just what the hell happened! No matter what though, all dreams come back to one "central" place.
YOU.
Your MIND.
This album, like your dreams, is all what YOU, yourself, envision. 'Feel' comes in after this, which is the first song I heard of theirs, which really got me very excited about this album. The guitar builds like a staircase, as you walk it up...watching your spirit separate itself from your physical being. The cleansing of your being, as you "let the rain wash over me and clear my name", as the song 'Let the Rain' suggests. A very gorgeous and stunning cover of Brian Jonestown Massacre's 'Feel So Good' hits in the middle of the album, just as you realize that you do have that strength, and that maybe, you really aren't so alone. "The way you love me baby, through and through...makes me feel so good". Slowly you come to that realization that there are loved ones there, and that we can't always do this all on our own. We need those around us to help once in a while, to pull us out of the shit, and bring us back to the skies. "Take my hand, hold on tight. Take my hand, make things right." ('Honey Come Down') Sometimes the path gets dark, and we stumble and trip in that darkness, waiting for that hand to reach down, but we also need to realize that we have to reach back. Imagine laying in the grass, looking up at the clouds, letting yourself become one with the world. As you begin to float, the grass starts to tickle the backs of your arms. That feeling. Right. There. "You're higher then the sky. For the stars to see." News on the album release is imminent. Keep an eye on the Dream Central Station page for further details... 'All On My Own' starts off the album and always hits me like a smack up along side my soul. I was instantly drawn into this song, and is my favorite on the album. With its deep hollow haunt of the guitar and vocals to the amazing lyrics that, for me hit personally ("every single person I've ever cared for turns their backs and walk out the door"), it pulled me in and never let go of its hooks.
All the songs hit with many different feelings. Hitting on subjects of alienation, to feelings of love and fear and pain to a total feeling of a rebirth...ah...A REBIRTH. Something that rings in this album as a whole. Dealing with the sadness of being alone. The feelings of pain and suffering to fight your way forward.
I could continue with so many beautiful lines of poetry sung between the layers of music. But really, it's your journey, for you to discover. You need to put this album on yourself, sit back, and let it take you.
