Nuclear Bunker Discs

Jonathan Wald - PeRPLeXa. Nuclear Bunker Discs.

Gone, Gone, Gone beyond, gone utterly beyond. Oh, what an Awakening...

Gone Beyond - utterly blew me away, left me speechless. Couldn't stop listening.

I remember a drive I made, 110 miles, 3 hours, winding roads. Gone Beyond by PeRPLeXa on repeat. It was the most beautiful drive I've ever made...

I've done that journey about one hundred times but this time it was different...

I'd Gone Beyond.

Jonathan Wald is one permanent half of PeRPLeXa. Drummer, percussionist extraordinaire - hearing is believing. Gone Beyond is the 3rd studio album by PeRPLeXa.

Before Jonathan gave up his choices, we found out a little about what's been going on with PeRPLeXa:

"Well, there's been some revisiting of the old analogue tape reels of the previous albums, I've an urge to revisit or remix them in some form or other.

There's been further interest in using some more PeRPLeXa tracks on movies & documentaries recently. We're quite open to that idea if it suits, so we'll see what comes..."

Can you tell us about this gig?

"Umm...maybe later..."

Ok, later...you will tell us though won't you?

"Umm...maybe later..."

First up, we'll play then 3 PeRPLeXa tracks, then we'll get onto Jonathan's 5 (yes, 5) choices...Then we'll find out about this rather extraordinary gig (oh yes we will)...

Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda / Eternity.

"(I will force my way into the bunker with both of these albums.) An unbelievable artist of our time, a true treasure. Journey is a meditation on her husbands death. One of the most psychedelic jazz albums, truly cosmic. She is absolutely unique in her music making. Her compositions, her tones, her heart... otherworldly. I find so much of her music truly inspiring."

Durutti Column - LC

"One of my heroes.

Vini Reilly simply plays the most wonderfully dreamy vignettes of musical genius. Undeniable soul soothing heartfelt music that set's me free, and LC is one of his best."

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock.

"A stunning album. It would seem unlikely that this band would have evolved into artists with this brilliant vision, but thankfully they did. Just breathtaking in it's spaciousness, hypnotizing tones, swirling texture, and raw emotional intensity, floating around such warm grooves."

The Raincoats - Odyshape.

"So beautiful, creative and poetic. Like some strange arts and crafts folk group from another planet, and so addictive for me. Different than their other albums, this is the one."

This Heat - Deceit.

"Wow... This band explored a sound and journey in the most original, diverse and incredible way. Charles Hayward is one of the most individual and interesting of the great drummers."

So there you have it.

"Damn... will anybody object if I bring these into the bunker as well?

Crash Worship - Triple Mania II.

A mind bending band... ritualistic. This recording shares their startling undeniable raw intensity."

Yes they will, you're only allowed 5, not 6...

"Can - Ege Bamyasi.

So much good music, but this record stands out with such amazing grooves and artistry. The whole band is just mesmerizing and it's my favorite of the Damo era."

You're definitely not having 7, you'll get me into trouble...

"Dead Can Dance - Dead Can Dance.

Their first and most primitive, but still the most hauntingly beautiful, and a compelling siren of what was to come."

"Chet Baker - Baby Breeze.

Having had his trumpet stolen but so expressive on whatever his instrument, he made this recording playing flugel horn."

Give me those albums!! I'm confiscating them... Now tell me about this gig...

"Ok, well, we've a few shows in the pipeline but PeRPLeXa was invited to play the Awake and Aware Conference in Los Angeles on September 23, 2011, a cause that we very much support.

George Noory hosts the evening that will be streamed live on the internet. As soon as we're certain the details can be worked out, PeRPLeXa will be added to the line up." http://www.awakeandaware2011.com

Wow, George "Coast to Coast" Noory, with guest speakers Graham Hancock, Bob Dean & Richard Hoagland? Can we come?

Many thanks to Jonathan for his choices.

We're so very sorry we had to confiscate half your CD's...
