Summer cocktail, with an olive.

You know how certain albums have this feel to them. Whether they make you think of a certain type of weather, maybe a rainy day, or a sunny day. Or maybe even a time of year. Well, upon the first opening seconds of the new brian olive album, two of everything, you get the feeling you are in for a nice summer ride. It sends summer images and feelings into your existence. You know...like those of sitting by a lake on a hot summer day. Or a nice late sunny afternoon, when the breeze is blowing your hair and the leaves are dancing and laughing with you. Those beautiful mid morning drives, where the day isn’t too hot...yet. Those star lit skies, while the fire flies light up around you, and the frogs sing their nightly music. Sitting on the edge of a dock, dangling your legs in the water, as you splash and kick and the droplets pitter patter across the surface of the lake. This album brings out a lot of these feelings and images and much much more. Perfect use of melodies and instruments that fit the very things I just described above.

One of the things I love about this album, is it gets stronger with each listen. More layers appear, the more you travel it’s sound waves, and you weave through a lot. You find things you didn’t hear the last time. It’s got a full sound, but not over the top complicated. It’s a FUN album. You want this on, when you have friends over. While sitting around having that summer bbq. It has a bit for everyone. That mix of soul, funk, rock, psych, garage and blues. Grooves to shake your butt to. It’s got attitude. You can walk down the street to this, and wonder, who’s gonna have the balls to fuck with you.

Having traveled the circuits with the Soledad Brothers and The Greenhornes, Brian Olive knows how to grab your attention and raise the energy. He’s got plenty of experience. And if you need everything...why not grab two. Two ears to listen...two legs to dance...two arms to sway. And one soul to soak it all in, but another with you, makes it twice as nice. Bring on summer. Two of everything.
