That's just some of the bands Ricky Maymi has either been a member of, played with, played on, worked with...you get the picture - inspirational, much in-demand, still wishing to learn & experience, prepared to lend a helping hand. These people make the music world go round & we're on a roll with folk like that in Nuclear Bunker Discs.

We can't not mention The Brian Jonestown Massacre. It wouldn't be fair not to.

Hopefully you know what we like to do by now - keep it current. So all we'll say is that, at the minute, the extraordinary juggernaut that is The Brian Jonestown Massacre is spread all over the world & different band members are busy with other ventures. It's safe to say when the time comes, another album will be written & recorded in a place & a style that catches everyone off guard again, the band will get together for a few days, prepare for a tour & hit the road. The album's influence will be felt worldwide & will last until the next one's ready. That seems to be how it happens...

Until then, huge amounts of music will appear written by or featuring in some way, members of the band.

Like from this direction - Ricky Maymi.

We're summarising in a huge way - there's more in-depth tales to tell on both The Wild Swans & The Wilderness Years by David Neil that deserve more space & research than we can give here but take a look around, see for yourselves. Both are current ventures that are keeping Ricky busy in various parts of the world.

& one of them - we're not quite sure what to believe...

But this part of the story isn't in any doubt. The Wild Swans achieved legendary & near mystical status in & around Liverpool & the north west UK. Paul Simpson started life in The Teardrop Explodes, formed The Wild Swans; the band split into two & became The Lotus Eaters & Care; Simpson started the band again & he called upon members of Echo and the Bunnymen, The Icicle Works, The Lightening Seeds & more to record & play live. Unfinished business saw Paul start work around 2007 with Ricky, Mike Mooney (Lupine Howl/The Flies/Spiritualized/Julian Cope), Les Pattinson (Echo and the Bunnymen) & Steve Beswick (Slipstream).

Fast Forward to June 2011, a UK tour has just happened, the album called The Coldest Winter For 100 Years is available for download & will be out on CD within the month & the band will be touring S.E Asia in September/October, where they have their biggest following outside the UK. An unbelievable story, a wonderful story & one hell of a journey.

Wonderful story number 2 - Steve Kilbey and Ricky Maymi present: "The Wilderness Years" by David Neil. It's a tale of mystery, possibly about undiscovered songs laying dormant until being completed, recorded & brought to life.

We know that Ricky has said working with Steve Kilbey from The Church fame has been a magical & humbling experience in the past so we hope working together on this release has been just as good.

Again - the album is ready, scheduled for a July release, with a tour around Australia & New Zealand in July & August. If you don't know The Church, do your digging - the band are an inspiration to fellow musicians & fans alike - another story in itself...

& a final word on David Neil - "an imaginary dead rock star from the past"...you work it out!

More specifics & details on the tour here:... (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=191564417556192)

We asked whether there there had been spare time for anything else that we should look out for & Ricky told us

"There is a band from Perth, The Morning Night, who's album I produced, played on and collaborated on. It also comes out in or after July in Australia. Graham Lee from The Triffids makes an appearance on both David Neil and The Morning Night lp's. Richard Lane from The Stems also appears on The Morning Night album. There is more in the pipeline so, check back with me in a few months time."

With all this going on, we're made up Ricky agreed to play along with our Nuclear Bunker Discs so now we've rambled on for a while we'll get on with it.

First up, a few tracks - one from The Wild Swans album, 2 from The Wilderness Years by David Neil & one from The Morning Night upcoming album. Spot that unmistakeable guitar sound throughout...

Then onto Ricky's 5 choices...

Hollywood Ending - David Neil by Blank Generation

Tame Impala "Innerspeaker" - The best rock band I have heard in ages and I never get tired of listening to it.

I haven't been that enthusiastic about an album since I was a teenager!!

David Sylvian "Secrets of the Beehive" - This album always comes back to me, ever since it came out it has remained a fixture in my life.

His newer albums are also absolutely brilliant!

The Triffids "Calenture"  - A wildly inspired album by anybody's standards. High in drama and rich in atmosphere.

The Church "Starfish"  - I had to become a guitarist after fully absorbing this record as a teenager. I still love it!

David Bowie "...Ziggy Stardust..."  - I was a Beatles/Bowie kid. I need to listen to this album sometimes to remind myself why I want to be in a band.

Ricky, you've been an absolute gent. Good luck from all at Tin Can with the 2 upcoming tours & 3 current ventures.

We'll join the masses in patiently waiting for the next Brian Jonestown Massacre album. When it comes it'll be worth the wait as always. We've always got the huge back catalogue until then to keep us going...
