Nuclear Bunker Discs

Amy Lee - The Meek. Nuclear Bunker Discs.

"Light and dark, black and white, blessing and curse – The Meek show no qualms dealing with these dualities, and certainly no qualms with a name that mocks their sound: a sound that builds on the tone set by The Velvet Underground’s “White Light, White Heat,” raises the reverb and distortion levels to the point that they bounce off of the moon and into your awaiting ears. And your ears shall inherit The Meek." (Ryan Muldoon - www.revoltoftheapes.com).

The Meek - don't be fooled. Ok, be fooled but don't say we didn't try to warn you.

It's hard to try to describe The Meek without bringing up other bands so we'll stop right here & urge you to take a listen if you haven't alread. & anyway, they were the past & this is the future - become a dedicated follower of The Meek instead. You know our tastes by now & this band are are right up there with our favourites. Why? Read what Ryan says again up above...

Not only the singer/bass player/synth player of The Meek, Amy also runs the wonderful Daily Planet Bookstore on Franklin Avenue, Hollywood. There's a lot going on within this band, that happens outside of the band...

Whilst talking about house guests & nuclear bunkers, Amy told us that "there are love songs, drug songs & God songs - if a song is really special it is all 3"...so prepare for some special choices.

Two tracks from The Meek, then onto Amy's picks:

(1) The Velvet Underground & Nico - This is my mantra. Rumor has it, Nico was crying right before this take.

(2) The Stooges (album) - Detroit & John Cale mix.

just in case that one's blocked...

(3) Joy Division - Substance - A posthumous compilation spanning their brief and brilliant career.

(4) The Jesus & Mary Chain - Darklands - God Almighty gloom.

(5) Spacemen 3 - Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs to - Space Blues Shoegaze Psychedelic Gospel Demos & B-sides sandwiched between post-punk and acid house.
