Periscope - Nuclear Bunker Discs

The Man's done it all in Manchester. Original Inspiral Carpets drummer. One time member of The Wake. Formed the supergroup The Hungry Sox before anyone knew it was a supergroup. Featuring himself, Mani (Roses/Primal Scream), Clint Boon (Carpets), Chris Goodwin (The High/Electronic) & Andy Housley (The Cradle). Now writing, recording, mixing, producing & making videos by the name Periscope. Highly prolific, always diverse in style, Periscope deserves your attention. Swinny kindly agreed to choose his 5 Nuclear Bunker Discs. Then he changed his mind. Then he made sure he didn't have any Ray Mears survival CD's knocking about. Then he slept on it, double checked for Ray Mears, then sent us his 5. We've thoroughly enjoyed the banter & putting this together, so we salute you for giving up about 2 days of your life to do this...

We'll start with two Periscope tracks, then Swinny's choices (in no particular order):

Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets - Totally changed the way I thought about how songs were supposed to be structured, it's a work of genius.

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses - A moment when everything came together at the same time, each member was at the top of their game and its unlikely there will be another album with a track list as strong as that one.

Billy Bragg - Don't Try This At Home - Backed by a band and with some of the most beautiful lyrics and arrangements ever, it shows he's far more than people think of him, the guy's a poet.

The Velvet Underground and Nico. Clever, cool, involving, sometimes simple is far more powerful.

Suede - Dog Man Star - Massive over the top, unashamed, in your face, show tunes, just great pop music and I like a bit of that now and again.
