The Warlocks return to Harvard and Stone....
It was midnight and inside the Harvard & Stone bar in Hollywood CA the atmosphere was loose and casual. To walk through the Harvard & Stone felt like you were walking through a 1930's speak-easy all washed out in sepia tones. As I sauntered about in the dim lighting I made my way toward the modest stage where The Warlocks were prepping for their set. Anticipation stirred in my soul as I waited.
Soon the stage lights dimmed to an orangey-red and smoke spiraled and crept out into the crowd. The gentle strum from the first chords of So Paranoid started and I closed my eyes, waiting for the ride to begin. For those who have never seen a live Warlocks show they are as much of an experience as they are amazing. The music hits you in a unique place that awakens your spirit and imagination. You are transcended and a thousand prisms in your mind burst like the embers over a crackling fire.
The sound swelled in my ears and erupted around me. The walls of the Harvard & Stone fell away and together we were all transported on a cosmic journey. Playing a mixture of both old and new tracks The Warlocks fed the crowd what they hungered, a bit of psychedelic escape.
I indulged in the sweet reverberation of the night and when the last song, Song for Nico ended my soul still lingered, suspended between here and some dusty plain.
This was the second appearance for The Warlocks at Harvard & Stone this month. Next month they are scheduled to play a series of shows beginning at The Mint on the September 10th. Come on out. They are not to be missed.
